Your nervous system is composed of two different systems called the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system.  Slow and deep breathing with only 6 – 8 breaths per minute vs the normal 16-20 more shallow breaths per minute will trigger this parasympathetic nervous system response which is to slow the heart beats down and cause the blood vessels in your body to dilate.  These two reactions cause your blood pressure to be reduced.

Studies are being conducted to determine the long-term effects and benefits of this exercise but it definitely has a short term impact on your heart and stress levels. – Which if these are triggered chronically and continually certain cardiovascular conditions can occur.

Drink Lots More Water

If we could just drink eight glasses of water each day – it could reduce the risk of heart failure as well as improve digestion, kidney function.  New research performed by scientists at the National Institutes of Health and presented at the European Cardiology Congress indicate that many of the factors for the deterioration of heart tissue and function could be delayed or minimized by better hydration.
