Joint Pain – Big Toe sounds funny – but it’s not.  That’s why you are here.  For those suffering from pain in their toes caused by inflammation – this is no laughing matter.

According to the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society approximately 3 million Americans suffer from joint pain big toe in origin.  So if you do suffer, or someone you love is suffering from that – what causes it and what can you do for it?

Causes for Joint Pain Big toe

First you should know that the cause for this pain is either joint related or toenail related. And depending on the cause – your solution is of course different.   Experts believe that there are 10 major reasons for joint pain in the big toe:

  • Joint :
    • Arthritis – either osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
    • Turf Toe
    • Bunion
    • Gout
  • Nail :
    • Nail fracture
    • Nail Infection
  • Other Causes:
    • Toe Fracture (bone)
    • Sesamoiditis (tendon inflammation in the ball of the foot)
    • Rayneauds disease (artery related)
    • Morton’s neuroma (nerves in the toe)

Again, the key is to identify which of these it might be in your case and a medical doctor can certainly help you identify that quickly and easily.  The solution for each of these is different and you should follow your doctor’s recommendation for them.  But if you find out that the pain is joint related – then it may be because of inflammation, then read on.

Inflammation in Joints

People with inflammation experience pain typically in their affected joints and toes.  For some people, inflammation causes extreme stiffness, resulting in a loss of mobility. This pain can also be felt in your fingers, knees, hips, spine, neck etc.  A study showed that polyphenols from olive oil in combination with other anti-inflammatory agents could reduce pain in patients.  Our olive oil supplements can benefit individuals who experience either chronic or repeated acute inflammation.*
