Is joint pain in elbow slowing you down – and limiting your activity?  The names for the conditions such as tennis elbow, golf elbow, elbow tendinitis, even writer’s cramp are varied and maybe not very helpful – but there is still hope for better elbow health.

Causes for Joint Pain in Elbows

The elbow is far more complex than most people understand.  There are three major bones, 23 muscles and several key tendons and ligaments that make up “an elbow”.  It is also a complex joint in that it not only flexes up and down but also rotates on axis at the joint to allow us to pick up heavy objects, throw balls, swing from bars, and dry dishes for example.  But any repetitive, or sudden jerking or violent wrenching activity can strain, rupture or injure the tendons and ligaments around the elbow.  One of the one of the more common sports-related tendon injuries for athletes, is the ulnar collateral ligament that connects the long humerus bone to the forearm bones.

However, another very common cause of chronic (continuous over long periods) elbow and joint pain is chronic inflammation.  According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), over 125 million Americans live with chronic inflammation which is the root cause for so many serious diseases such as cardiovascular disease and osteoarthritis to name just a few.  60% of all adult Americans suffer from one of these chronic diseases, and of these, osteoarthritis impacts over 32 million Americans.  Osteoarthritis can cause severe cartilage pain in your back, neck, hips, knees, ankles, fingers, wrists – and yes, in your elbows.

What to Do About it

If your pain is related to joint injury issues like those listed above, we recommend that you speak with your medical practitioner.  But if you believe it is related to inflammation and chronic inflammation in your elbows, then we may be able to help.
