At Oliventures, we take National Food Hunger day seriously. On one level, the food industry is feeding billions more people – more food – than at any time in the history of this planet. And we are doing it more cheaply than ever. In fact, at the time of Jesus, nearly 2,000 years ago, researchers believe that the average person spent half their day, and half their salary, getting and making food to eat each day – and it was a very simple diet. Most likely, many of the people reading this article, may never have hungered for food in their lives.
But that is not the norm for millions of people in the U.S.
Jesus may have produced food for tens of thousands easily, but the USDA Economic Research Service reports that 11% of U.S. households experienced shortages – “food insecurity” and struggled to find food last year.
Experts believe that due to the recent coronavirus pandemic, more than 42 million people might be experiencing food insecurity, including nearly 13 million children. Research shows that children who are hungry have lower math scores, and are more likely to repeat a grade, come to school late, or miss school entirely.
This crisis is bringing about the rise of more pantries, care centers, missions groups and civic centers for the collection and distribution of food to aid millions. All of our company staff at Oliventures serves regularly, each week at GCC Foundation’s care center established at Grace Church in Noblesville, IN. One of our directors on our staff even serves on the Board at GCC Foundation, and helps decide strategic investments in the community of Indianapolis to address food security.
Service and Donations
But Oliventures doesn’t stop at serving, we also support the GCC Foundation with donations of our high quality, polyphenol-rich olive oil. We are proud to help by providing these bottles to those in need in our community. It is rewarding to watch the excitement and the surprise of the “friends” that come to the Care Center each week and learn about the health benefits and great taste of our CardiOlive® 25x product.* They are truly touched and deeply impacted with gratitude for the hundreds of companies like ours that stock the shelves each week with their products for our friends suffering from food insecurity.
